What makes a good side business?
I put a post on the PicoBusiness Forum, asking people what they think are some good qualities of side businesses. Feel free to add your own ideas!
1. Limited Time commitment
2. Not likely to blow up and force you to drop everything else to attend to it.
3. Advancing your knowledge in a “low key” kind of way
4. Low cost to run and maintain
5. Fun!
6. Refreshing (in that working on it makes you feel more energized and excited, not less)
7. Meaningful - you feel like you’re making a difference in someone’s life
8. Potential for greatness - if you’ve met the previous 7 rules, then this isn’t quite as important, but it’s nice to know that the potential is there.
9. Growing - not just income (That’s nice), but also that it helps you grow your human network, grow your capacity for new ideas, grow your resources.
10. Trackable - at least for me, if I don’t have any way of knowing if anyone cares or even knows what I’m doing, then it’s hard to stay motivated to keep at it.
